People remained outdoors for hours, taking cover under gamchhas, caps and umbrellas. Varanasi: Scorching sun and heat failed to wither the enthusiasm of people who surged in massive numbers along both banks of Ganga on the concluding day of the three-day ‘Wings Over Ganga’ air show on Sunday.
Spectators kept the ghats, roads and rooftops packed to watch IAF fighter aircraft display speed, precision and daring aerial manoeuvres over the river. People carrying the Tricolour lined the riverfront as far as the eye could see, turning Kashi into a scene of patriotic celebration before Prime Minister Narendra Modi , defence minister Rajnath Singh , Governor Anandiben Patel, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and IAF officials reached Namo Ghat. Despite harsh sunshine and oppressive heat, families stayed outdoors for hours and refused to leave their vantage points. Women came with children and provided them shade with their saris and dupattas. Each roar from the aircraft sent faces skyward, and the crowd’s excitement surged during every formation and high-speed pass.

Yogi govt made extensive arrangements for security, traffic and public convenience in anticipation of the turnout. Ghats were divided into zones and sectors, with designated entry routes, parking areas and crowd-control points. Temporary police stations, medical facilities, green corridors, drinking water, mobile toilets and sanitation services were arranged. Separate internal and external traffic plans, diversions, barricades and alternative routes helped manage movement, while police at bus stands and railway stations kept spectator flow orderly across the city.
