Belagavi : An Indian Army soldier and his wife were killed in a tragic road accident near Manikwadi Cross on the Belagavi-Panaji Highway late Tuesday night.

Yuvaraj Malik, 30, a resident of Jatage village and a serving soldier posted in Ahmednagar, died on the spot. His wife, Mohini Malik, 25, suffered severe injuries and later succumbed to them at a hospital. Yuvaraj, who was serving in Ahmednagar, had come to his native village on leave. The couple was rushed for treatment, but Yuvaraj died at the scene, while Mohini succumbed to her injuries later.
On Tuesday evening, he had gone shopping with his wife and was returning home on a motorcycle when their vehicle collided with a truck near Manikwadi Cross at around 8pm. The last rites of the soldier and his wife were conducted with state honours on Wednesday amid grief in the village.
