The Kolhapur state government has begun the process of incorporating eight villages adjacent to Kolhapur city into its municipal boundaries. The urban development department has requested a status report from the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) commissioner, which should include relevant documentation regarding the proposed boundary extension.
KMC submitted the information to the state govt late on Wednesday night, along with its proposal of Aug 5, 2025, seeking the merger of Uchgaon, Sarnobatwadi, Morewadi, Kalamba, Balinga, Ujlaiwadi, Padli Khurd and Pachgaon. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced on Aug 9 that the city limits would be expanded, stating that the move was necessary for development. He had also assured that problems faced by residents outside the municipal limits would be addressed. Following the announcement, additional chief secretary to the chief minister Lokesh Chandra directed the urban development department to submit relevant information to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat within a week. Department cell officer Vinod Kadam subsequently wrote to KMC commissioner Dr Rajendra Bharud seeking details. The govt sought information on previous boundary extensions, the need for a fresh proposal, govt resolution or legislation, a separate authority, central govt approval and administrative sanction.
Also, the proposal of eight villages — Uchgaon, Sarnobatwadi, Morewadi, Kalamba, Balinga, Ujlaiwadi, Padli Khurd and Pachgaon — sent on Aug 5, 2025, regarding the extension of Kolhapur city limits has also been attached.” A KMC senior official said, “As per the demand of the state government, we have submitted all the information on Wednesday.
