Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s para shooter Millie Shah and Paris Paralympics medallists Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal scripted history on Thursday by winning India’s first women’s team gold medal at the Changwon 2026 WSPS World Championships in South Korea. The gold medal was won with a team score of 1878.6 in the 10m air rifle standing women SH1 category — a category for shooters who have impaired lower limbs but can support the weight of their firearm without a stand. “The gold was expected considering the training and practice undertaken by the team at the 15-day camp,” Rai told TOI in an exclusive interaction. “This is the best performance by an Indian women’s team in the 10m air rifle standing women category,” said Rai, who is also the national rifle coach. “More than the training and practice undertaken by these para shooters, it is their sheer will-power to overcome the physical disabilities and perform at the highest level that is remarkable,” Rai stated.
