Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) estate department on Thursday cleared a 700m stretch of a sanctioned 30.5-metre-wide road in Rakhial, removing 88 structures that fell within the proposed road line. Of the 88 structures demolished, around 83 were non-residential units and five were residential structures. The civic body removed approximately 6,200 sq m of construction to facilitate widening of the road on both sides along the 700m stretch. Around 125 AMC officials participated in the operation, including teams from AMC Estate Department, local police, Torrent Power, fire services and health department.

The drive was carried out along the road from Trikamlal Crossroads to Potalia Crossroads, via Everest Crossroads, up to Rakhial Crossroads in the Saraspur-Rakhial ward. The first phase covered the stretch between Trikamlal Crossroads and Everest Crossroads. The AMC is expected to continue the road-clearing operation on the remaining stretches covered under the sanctioned road alignment. Download the TOI App.
