A 27-year-old cleric attached to a madrasah in Sivaganga district was arrested under the Pocso Act for allegedly sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.
Sivaganga: A 27-year-old cleric attached to a madrasah in Sivaganga district was arrested under the Pocso Act for allegedly sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl.
Police said the Class II student had been attending the madrasah attached to a mosque for the past two years. The girl told her mother that the cleric had subjected her to sexual harassment, according to police. The accused, Ansari of Thondi in Ramanathapuram district, had been working as a religious instructor at the madrasah for the past four years. The mother lodged a complaint with Sakottai police, based on which police registered a case under relevant sections of the Pocso Act and arrested Ansari.
Further investigation is underway. After interrogation, Ansari was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
