In Kanpur, the body of a 32-year-old painter was discovered on Thursday morning, two days after he went missing. Authorities found him floating in the flooded verandah of his home in Ujiyarpurwa. Preliminary investigations suggest that he may have died due to electrocution. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
At about 6.30am on Thursday, family members and the landlord found Sanjay’s body floating in water in the lower veranda and alerted Nawabganj police. Because of the high water level, police struggled to reach the house. They reached the area with a loader, recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.

Nawabganj inspector Rajkesar said Sanjay’s body was found in floodwater inside the house and that electrocution was suspected. Family members believe he may have come into contact with electric current while fixing wires in the room. Investigation is underway. Download the TOI App.
Sanjay alias Lala had lived with his mother, Tara Devi, for about 10 years in landlord Shyambabu alias Paji’s house. The landlord said flood conditions had persisted in Ujiyarpurwa for about 15 days, submerging hundreds of houses and forcing residents to live on rooftops. Because of flooding, he was alone after his mother moved to a relative’s home in Lalbangla.
After Sanjay had not been seen for two days, the landlord made inquiries with his married sisters, Mona and Preeti, but found no information. He also searched the flooded lower portion of the house but could not locate him. Preeti’s husband, Shekhar, was then informed, while calls to Sanjay’s mobile phone found it switched off.
