Fresh case against remanded village extension officer — Konni LIFE Mission fraud

Kottayam : Konni police have registered a fresh case against Rani Lakshmi (37), a village extension officer who is already under judicial remand in a separate fraud case, for allegedly diverting more than Rs 20 lakh from LIFE Mission and toilet-maintenance funds in Aruvappulam panchayat, Pathanamthitta, officials said. The complaint alleges irregularities amounting to nearly Rs 20.65 lakh in plan fund allocations for the LIFE Mission housing scheme and toilet-maintenance works during 2022-25. Lakshmi is currently under remand after being arrested earlier by Thannithodu police in a separate case involving alleged forgery of documents to siphon off nearly Rs 50 lakh from LIFE Mission funds in Seethathodu and Thannithodu panchayats, officials said.

The case was registered on a complaint filed by the Aruvappulam panchayat secretary, police said. Amounts in excess of sanctioned sums were allegedly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts as well as to the accounts of relatives who were not beneficiaries, the complaint reads.
