Man held for obscene video blackmail and religious conversion bid

Thane: The Shreenagar police in Thane have arrested four men in connection with the brutal hacking death of 42-year-old Sandip Hiraman Salve in Hanuman Nagar, Wagle Estate, in what police suspect was a revenge attack stemming from an old rivalry.

The incident took place around 10.45 pm on Thursday near a CNG pump . Police said the attack was allegedly linked to a 2023 dispute, during which one of the arrested accused had allegedly been stabbed by Salve and his cousin. The arrested accused have been identified as Dharmendra Ved Prakash Tiwari alias Bade (36), Neeraj alias Pintu Sabhapati Pandey (39), Pawan Kumar alias Rinku Sabhapati Pandey, and Anand alias Milmil Ved Prakash Tiwari (30).

Salve was walking through the area when he was intercepted by the accused, according to police. The confrontation quickly escalated, with the group allegedly assaulting him before repeatedly attacking him with sharp iron choppers. Police suspect the accused had continued to harbour a grudge and allegedly planned the attack as an act of vengeance.

Based on an eyewitness complaint, Shreenagar police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Maharashtra Police Act and Arms Act. Further investigation is underway, and police are also attempting to recover the weapons allegedly used in the crime.
