Madras high court dismissed a plea seeking a direction to the authorities to make necessary arrangements for conducting the consecration ceremony of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple

Madurai : Madras high court dismissed a plea seeking a direction to the authorities to make necessary arrangements for conducting the consecration ceremony of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai, scheduled on Sept 17, also in Tamil. During the course of hearing, the state submitted that even during the previous consecration ceremony conducted in 2009, odhuvars attached to the temple and odhuvars from various other temples under the Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR and CE) department were invited to perform the chanting of Tamil slogans and hymns by allotting a sufficient separate place adjacent to the Yagasala. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by G Theeran Thirumurugan alias Thirumurugan. The temple follows Kaarana and Kaamiya Agamas in the temple rituals and the consecration is performed following the Agamas of the temple.
