New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta Friday directed Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to strengthen its online complaint system and make the process of registering and disposing of complaints simpler and more effective.
At a meeting with the commission at Janseva Sadan, Gupta said ensuring the safety of women and girls required not only strong laws but also greater awareness of their rights and available support mechanisms. Gupta said the online complaint system should enable women to easily register complaints related to domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual exploitation and harassment, and track their disposal. These centres should provide medical care, counselling, legal aid, rehabilitation and a safe environment for women, she said.
She asked DCW to conduct awareness campaigns in schools and colleges on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and cybercrime. Students should be educated about online harassment, misuse of social media, cyber fraud and other digital offences, besides being informed about available grievance-redressal mechanisms. The chief minister also directed the commission to promote awareness about HPV vaccination among eligible adolescent girls, particularly those from disadvantaged sections, and ensure information on free vaccination reaches families through coordination with concerned departments. She also asked the commission to review facilities at One Stop Centres (Sakhi) and women’s shelters and care homes run by the govt and NGOs.
