Detention of Indian National in Moscow Raises Legal Concerns
Chandan Gupta, an Indian national, was detained by Moscow police for approximately 48 hours under disputed circumstances. According to Sneha, Gupta’s representative, he was held without proper verification of his work visa, with authorities mistakenly believing he was traveling on a tourist visa.
Sneha further alleged that Gupta, who does not speak or read Russian, was pressured into signing documents during his detention. She claimed that police threatened to escalate the situation by filing four additional cases against him if he did not comply.
Sneha expressed confidence that the police would struggle to substantiate their allegations in court due to insufficient evidence. Gupta, who is a deputy general manager at a company in Noida, had traveled to Russia for work. Previously, Sneha had accused Russian authorities of unjustly arresting Gupta and attempting to conscript him into the military. She also criticized the Indian embassy in Russia for not offering adequate support during this ordeal.
Kanpur: Indian engineer Chandan Gupta (40), who was detained in Moscow, returned to his Kanpur home with his family on Thursday night, following which his wife released a fresh video contesting allegations of drunken misconduct against him.
