Kanpur: A 60-year-old farmer was allegedly injured in a suspected leopard attack in Etawah’s Jaswantnagar on Thursday night. The victim, Sahukar (60), was returning home from his field around 5 pm when the animal attacked him, leaving him with scratches on his back, chest, neck and legs, according to information. However, regional forest sub-inspector Sachin Yadav said the animal involved was a fishing cat, which resembles a leopard but is about the size of a dog. Villagers said that two weeks ago, the animal killed four goats and injured two others in Jakhan village. Officials said forest personnel would conduct a rescue operation and try to capture it. Villagers accused the department of shirking responsibility and said they would submit a memorandum to the district magistrate if the animal was not caught soon.
