Kanpur draws with Lucknow, exits sub-jr football knockouts

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

In a crucial match for the Sub-Junior Inter-Division Football Tournament, Kanpur’s aspirations for advancing to the knockout stage were thwarted by a 2-2 draw against Lucknow. The match took place at Eklavya Stadium in Agra on Friday. Despite a strong effort from both teams, neither could secure a win, leaving Kanpur’s tournament future uncertain.

Shaurya in second half once again scored a goal on 50 th match converting a penalty shot from outside penalty area. Kanpur took the lead twice during the match but failed to hold on to their advantage as Lucknow fought back on both occasions to level the score. The draw left Kanpur without the crucial win they needed to keep their knockout hopes alive. Lucknow retaliated and got success in leveling the score with in five minutes.

City team opened the game with attacking note and got 1-0 lead when striker Shaurya Sagar converted a beautiful pass of midfielder and Captain Navjot. Lucknow made counter attack and brought parity on 24th minute when forward converted his right footer into a goal.

Atharva, Navjot, Devansh and Shaurya displayed fine game during the tournament , according to coach Amit Narang Piyush.
