Six others had already been arrested in the case. Kolkata: Jharkhand Police has arrested a Kolkata Police traffic sergeant and a woman civic volunteer of the Beliaghata Traffic Guard in connection with the murder of a businessman in Chandil in Jharkhand last month, senior police officials said on Friday.
The probe by Jharkhand cops has revealed that a prime suspect in the case had maintained frequent telephonic communication with both the arrested personnel.
“Ayan Gupta(37), a resident of Parnasree and a sergeant of Kolkata Police and Twinkle Das (30), of Chawal Patty Road, a female civic volunteer, have been arrested by Jharkhand Police following several hours of interrogation at Lalbazar,” said an additional CP. Police also claimed that the suspect was allegedly part of a contract-killing team. The arrested Kolkata Police personnel were summoned by the Jharkhand cops at Lalbazar on Thursday.
Police said hotelier-cum-businessman, Nikhar Sablok, was shot dead on Aug 24 outside a hotel. Police suspect that a contract of Rs 15 lakh had been given to kill the businessman. The total number of arrests in the high-profile case has increased to eight. A Special Investigation Team was formed by Jharkhand Police to investigate the murder. Cops believe the murder was linked to an alleged land dispute.
