Lucknow: Two days after a young couple from Hardoi was found hanging in a Chinhat guest house, fresh details have emerged about the circumstances leading to their deaths, including missing wedding funds and a kidnapping complaint filed by the girl’s family.
Tragic Outcome for Young Couple Amid Familial Opposition
Amit Kumar, 22, and Nargis, also known as Pooja, 19, took their own lives after eloping due to familial disapproval of their relationship. The couple left their homes on August 21 and stayed in a guest house in Lucknow for nearly 18 days. They reportedly married at an Arya Samaj temple prior to their deaths. Amit had claimed he was traveling to Haridwar with friends for his sister’s upcoming wedding, and he left with approximately Rs 4 lakh, which included his savings and borrowed funds for the wedding preparations.
Nargis’s father filed a kidnapping complaint against Amit at the Harpalpur police station two days after the couple went missing. According to family sources, Amit and Nargis had been in a relationship for about 10 months, having met when Amit started working at a medical store near Nargis’s home in Hardoi.
Authorities discovered a suicide note, a marriage certificate, and a mobile phone in the guest house room. In the note, the couple expressed that their decision was voluntary and requested that their families not face harassment as a result of their actions.
