Nagpur Experiences Significant Rainfall Amid Monsoon Deficit
On Saturday, Nagpur received approximately 60mm of rainfall, marking a significant weather event that ended a prolonged dry spell. This downpour has raised hopes for a more robust monsoon as the festive season approaches.
The rain began around 2pm, with dark clouds indicating a shift from the recent sweltering conditions. The precipitation was uneven, with certain areas remaining dry for hours before experiencing heavy rainfall starting around 4pm. By evening, the rain intensified and became more widespread, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature and alleviating high humidity levels.
This rainfall event is only the third instance of heavy rain this monsoon season in Nagpur. Notably, most of the rainfall occurred in a short duration with high intensity, reflecting the increasingly erratic weather patterns observed this year.
Despite the welcome rain, experts caution that it may not significantly alter the overall rainfall deficit, which currently stands at approximately 30%. While this event has brought temporary relief, further substantial rainfall will be necessary in the coming weeks to address the shortfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Nagpur and surrounding regions in Vidarbha for Sunday, indicating the potential for additional moderate to heavy rainfall.
