Migrant worker held for assaulting elderly couple in Pandippara
The victims are Mathew Joseph, 72, and his wife Annamma, 70, of Kanjirakkatt House at Pandippara. The police along with residents, launched an extensive search in the area.
He ran towards the Irukootty area from near the main road, about 500m from the house, according to the police. The police suspect that the arrested person is from Jharkhand. The accused identified himself as Naresh during interrogation. However, the police suspect that the name and other personal details provided by him are false. No identity documents were found in his possession. Efforts are under way to ascertain his real identity and address. The police suspect that the attack may have occurred during an attempted theft. The incident occurred around 6am when the couple opened the door to leave for church. The accused allegedly attacked Mathew after entering the house. Hearing the commotion, Annamma rushed to the scene, but she too was assaulted. The accused allegedly dragged Mathew by his leg, threw him to the floor and assaulted him. The accused fled the house after Annamma raised an alarm. He was wearing a black vest and shorts. By noon, the accused was found hiding in an agricultural field about a kilometre from the scene of the incident and was taken into custody. His arrest has been recorded.
