Kochi : Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is hosting ICTN 2026 – International Conference on Translational Neuroscience: Brain to Behaviour, organised by its centre for neuroscience. The four-day conference was inaugurated by minister for higher education Roji M John on Sunday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, John said universities should move beyond confining academic studies and research to laboratories and evolve into institutions capable of addressing problems affecting society. “A university can be considered to have fulfilled its responsibility when its knowledge and research contribute to finding solutions to societal problems,” he said. “Although the world is living in the era of AI, the human brain continues to have its own significance, as no AI can surpass the human brain in evaluating situations and making decisions,” he said. Cusat vice-chancellor M Junaid Bushiri, who presided over the function, said the university has always taken the lead in initiating significant changes in higher education.
He also underlined the importance of studying the human brain despite the rapid advances in artificial intelligence. Family members of C S Paulose, founding director of the centre for neuroscience, were honoured at the function. A brain exhibition, 3D brain projection and a three-day public brain symposium are also being held as part of the programme. The symposium focuses on neurodevelopment, mental health and neurodegeneration.
