Between March 7, 2024, and July 18, this year, he allegedly took a total of Rs22 lakh from the woman. When Sharma stopped responding and failed to return the money, the woman realised she was duped and lodged a complaint on Sept 12. Sharma introduced himself as an Army personnel and later claimed he quit to start a business, according to the complaint.

The accused has been identified as Mandeep Sunil Sharma, a native of Bilaspur, presently residing in Himachal Pradesh. Police have registered a case for cheating and criminal breach of trust. The complainant, a resident of Narendra Nagar, lives with her mother and a child. She had registered her profile on a matrimonial app where she came in contact with the accused. Promising to marry her, Sharma started demanding money on the pretext of business needs.
