Madurai: Despite documentary evidence showing alterations in interview mark sheets, DVAC has failed to establish who made the changes in a 2012 case concerning Manonmaniam Sundaranar University’s B.Ed admissions (distance education). The failure has resulted in the acquittal of former vice-chancellor R T Sabapathy Mohan and former associate professor S P Denizia by a Tirunelveli special court on September 3, after 14 years. He said he verified the 18% SC and 1% ST quotas before signing the decision, leading the court to find no basis for the charge.
All nine told Thangasamy they attended and paid nobody, while four repeated this in court, which rejected the allegation. However, Thangasamy said none had mentioned this during investigation. DVAC alleged that nine candidates were admitted without attending interviews, but its inquiry produced the opposite account. The prosecution relied on interviewers’ testimony that university representatives instructed them to record marks in pencil. Special judge R Subbiah treated their courtroom version as an embellishment that deepened doubts over the case. The conspiracy charge failed after both investigating officers admitted that selected candidates had no known connection with either accused. The probe also found no evidence that Mohan and Denizia jointly prepared the disputed list or agreed to favour applicants. DVAC’s allegation on reservation was contradicted by selection committee member Murugan.
