Lucknow: Authorities have apprehended a fourth suspect in the murder of Vinod Kumar Sahani, a utensil trader. Sahani was fatally stabbed by a group of assailants in the Paraspur area of Gonda, following a dispute related to social media posts. The ongoing investigation has now led to multiple arrests as police continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding this violent incident.
Arrest Made in Ongoing Investigation
Authorities announced the arrest of a suspect on Saturday, following information gathered from the interrogation of three previously detained individuals. Police are actively conducting raids across multiple locations to locate additional suspects connected to the case.
In response to the situation, law enforcement is increasing surveillance of social media platforms to mitigate the risk of provocative posts that could disrupt public order. Security measures have been heightened around the victim’s residence, including the installation of barricades on access roads and the deployment of extra police personnel in the surrounding village.
Cabinet minister Sanjay Nishad held a protest at KGMU and in Gonda. Samajwadi Party members and Congress functionaries also sought to meet the victim’s family, while members of the Nishad community visited the victim’s house and demanded strict action against the accused. Sahani’s family has demanded stringent action against the accused, including invocation of the National Security Act (NSA) and demolition of their properties. The family has also sought a CBI probe, compensation and a govt job for one member of the family.
Deputy inspector general Ashok Kumar Shukla said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the dispute may have originated from social media posts which subsequently escalated.
