Three looters nabbed after encounter in Mau

Varanasi: Mau police arrested a looter following an exchange of fire in Gahani village on Saturday night. Later on his tipoff, police arrested his two accomplices, including a jeweller allegedly involved in buying the stolen valuables, police said on Sunday.

Mishra said that police raided their places and arrested Raja Rajbhar (20), and Lala alias Yogendra Rajbhar (24) of Rasdi area in Ghosi. Police said they robbed a couple at gunpoint near Jamin Sahrullah on Sept 5 and opened fire at a police checking team while fleeing on Saturday. During questioning, the accused told police that Anurag Verma (24), proprietor of Jigyasa Jewellers in Raghauli Bazaar and a resident of Maurbojh in Ghosi, used to buy the looted jewellery.

On seeing police, the criminals opened fire. When the police retaliated, one of the accused identified as Mayank alias Prince Yadav suffered bullet injury and was arrested while two others managed to escape. Police rushed injured Yadav to hospital, where he divulged possible hideouts of his accomplices. During interrogation, Raja and Lala confessed committing robberies with Yadav. Police subsequently called Verma to negotiate a deal for the purchase of the looted ornaments and arrested him.

Mau CO Madhuban Dinesh Datt Mishra on Sunday said that on receiving inputs regarding movement of criminals, Haldharpur police on Saturday raided Gahani village and tried to nab them.
