Ahmedabad : Two brothers employed with a transport company in Kalupur allegedly fled with Rs 45.3 lakh in cash after one of them was entrusted with the office keys, police said. The complainant, a 38-year-old transporter, runs K Mangilal Parcel Service at Lodhawala Chambers opposite Kalupur railway station along with his elder brother and another partner. Yashvir Parmar, 23, had been working with the firm for nearly five years, while his elder brother, Dalvir Parmar, joined around nine months ago, according to the complaint. The complainant stated that at around 3pm on Sept 7, he left for work at CG Road after handing out the office drawer key to Yashvir. He informed him that the drawer contained Rs 40.3 lakh in cash. He also instructed Dalvir to collect Rs 5 lakh from a trader in Panchkuva and keep the amount in the same drawer. When the complainant returned at about 4.45pm, he found the office locked and Yashvir’s phone switched off. A trader in Panchkuva subsequently confirmed that Dalvir had collected Rs 5 lakh from him.

On contacting Dalvir, he was allegedly told that he had stepped away briefly and would return within five minutes. CCTV footage showed the two brothers leaving the premises carrying bags, according to the complaint. The complainant said repeated attempts to trace them were unsuccessful, and they never returned to work.

Both were responsible for handling cash transactions in the absence of the partners. However, neither of the brothers returned, and both phones were later switched off. The complainant then called other employees and entered the office after breaking open the lock. He allegedly found the drawer open and the cash missing.

A complaint in the case was registered with Kalupur police on Saturday, five days after the alleged incident.
