Speaking at the valedictory of the second edition of AI Manthan at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), she said creativity, curiosity and human empathy should remain students’ key strengths in an AI-driven future. Addressing educators, Patel said the summit should be seen as a starting point for implementation of AI in higher education institutions. Calling for development of indigenous AI, Patel said India’s ecosystem should be built on Indian talent, Indian data and secure digital infrastructure to bolster technological sovereignty, data security and global competitiveness.
She cited progress since the first edition, noting that over seven lakh undergraduate students in state universities have completed foundational AI courses, while more than three lakh students have received cyber security training in Hindi medium. Governor called for AI to be integrated across disciplines instead of being confined to a standalone subject. She pointed to potential applications such as AI-based problem-solving in mathematics, data analysis in science, smart farming and weather forecasting, early disease detection, environmental monitoring, robotics and natural language processing. Patel also stressed the importance of connecting India’s traditional knowledge systems with modern AI tools, including using technology to preserve manuscripts, languages, archaeological heritage and folk traditions. Referring to the ancient medical text Sushruta Samhita, she highlighted India’s scientific legacy and urged stronger efforts to protect and promote traditional knowledge through technology. She highlighted AI’s role in university administration, including admissions, examinations, scholarships, grievance redressal and resource management, while asserting that AI must assist rather than replace human judgement, especially in academic evaluation. She also emphasised preparing teachers for AI, framing the relationship as collaboration, not competition.
Earlier, CSJMU vice-chancellor Prof Vinay Pathak proposed a collaborative AI mechanism among universities, supported by Jan Bhavan, for joint projects, mentorship and knowledge sharing, saying it could help Uttar Pradesh contribute significantly to India’s AI ecosystem and the Viksit Bharat vision.
