The inspection was conducted following complaints that unfair prices were being charged at the cafes operating in the theatres. The inspection team found that the price of popcorn and soft drinks in multiplexes was five times higher than in the general market and two times higher in ordinary theatres. A strict directive was given to change the prices to align with the prices in the general market. Cases were registered against three cafes for not displaying the price list in the prescribed manner. The price could be known only by scanning the QR code, which causes difficulty for ordinary people. Download the TOI App.
