It comes four days after Sumit Roy , the personal assistant to TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee , was arrested in the case last Thursday. Kharagpur : CID on Monday arrested three more people in connection with the Salboni land scam case.
The accused were identified as Trinamool worker and alleged land middleman Amit Ghosh of Gaighata, and Nityananda Roy and Lakshikanta Bhuiya of Metal village, all under Salboni PS.
The names of the three arrested were in the complaint but not included in CID’s Sept 2 charge sheet, which named four people, including former Midnapore MLA Sujoy Hazra. Police sources claimed the three were directly involved in facilitating the land transactions and the arrests came after Roy’s questioning. Based on that, Amit Ghosh was arrested. One accused is out on bail while two are absconding. Officers are probing the extent of Roy’s involvement and whether he travelled directly to Midnapore. Investigators have found that Roy often arrived in Midnapore late at night and held secret meetings with district youth netas in the town, apart from meeting Hazra. CID is trying to identify these netas. Roy allegedly travelled after dark through Debra, Kharagpur, Midnapore, Salboni and Ghatal, leaving Midnapore town early in the morning after the meetings.
