Meerut: Jamat Raza-e-Mustafa, affiliated with Dargah Ala Hazrat, has extended its support to Mustafa Masjid in Moradabad after the Moradabad Development Authority (MDA) issued it a notice over alleged illegal construction activity.

The organisation’s national vice-president, Salman Hasan Khan, said the mosque was not a new structure and demanded that old documents, revenue records and its historical status be examined before any action. Hafiz Ikram, a member, said due process must be followed and no action taken till documents are properly verified. Clerics said the “norms in force” today did not exist when the mosque was built and questioned whether uniform standards were being applied to religious structures. Meanwhile, Moradabad unit of the farmer group, BKU, has come out in support of the mosque stating that “the religious structure was built on private land around 40 years ago”.
Local residents from Moradabad briefed clerics at Bareilly markaz, following which a meeting was held to discuss the notice and its legal aspects. A similar case in Saharanpur was also cited. The meeting appealed for peace and urged people to avoid rumours. Download the TOI App.
