Meerut: A video call screen recording involving Kanhaiya Gulati, the alleged mastermind behind an Rs 800 crore investment fraud, surfaced on Sunday evening. This new evidence has intensified scrutiny on law enforcement’s efforts to locate the fugitive.

The recording raises significant questions about the ongoing investigation and the effectiveness of the police’s search for Gulati, who has been evading capture since the fraud was uncovered.

Gulati—who carries a Rs 50,000 bounty on his head and faces an active lookout notice—is seen in the video interacting with nearly 49 alleged company agents. In the recording, a man identified as ‘Vinay’ is heard telling Gulati not to visit Bareilly, claiming he had a roughly 15-minute conversation with DIG Ajay Sahani. Despite being on the run, the footage suggests he has continued to manage his network, as panicked agents pressed him over pending payouts and demanded clarity on trapped company funds. Sahani, however, denied any links with the man. “I don’t even know this man. The video is a year old, and the accused has been taken into custody.

The accused told us he used my name to influence the fraud accused to get his money returned,” Sahani told TOI on Monday.

Gulati faces over 80 criminal cases registered across Bareilly and Badaun. The massive financial fraud operated by luring unsuspecting investors with astronomical promises—specifically, 5% monthly returns paired with full principal repayment after 22 months.

Vinay further tells him that calls from around 40 “Lions”-level agents should be attended to, while others should be ignored. The conversation also makes a reference to Bareilly SP (City) Manush Parikh, with Vinay claiming the officer was pursuing Gulati, who, in the video, instructs that he should only be messaged and not called. Initially, payouts were honoured to build trust, but payments eventually halted entirely, triggering a massive wave of investor complaints and legal actions.

DIG Sahani, who had earlier announced the Rs 50,000 cash reward for information leading to Gulati’s arrest, stated that further probes into Gulati’s digital evasion tactics will now be handled by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), to which the investigation has officially been transferred.
