Kolkata: Officers from Bhowanipore Police Station on Monday arrested a Group D employee of SSKM Hospital in connection with an extortion and physical assault case registered in late July.
The accused, identified as Raj Kishore Ram (33) from Turf Road, was apprehended from the Kalighat area. Police had been looking for Ram since July 30, when an FIR was lodged against him under sections 308(2), 351(2), 324(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case stems from a complaint filed by Shambhu Maity, a contractor working at the main MBBS Hostel of IPGME&R at SSKM Hospital, who alleged Ram extorted Rs 5,000 and assaulted him on the hospital premises, according to cops.
