Kolkata: A strict scrutiny for Kolkata Police civic volunteers has been initiated after the arrest of Twinkle Das, a civic volunteer attached with the Beleghata Traffic guard, for allegedly being in regular touch with Raghav , the prime suspect in the murder case of a Jharkhand businessman in Chandil.
Volunteers found with fake certificates, a record of serious misconduct or those functioning as active party cadres would face action, said an official. Twinkle, arrested by Jharkhand police, allegedly played a key role in convincing sergeant Ayan Gupta to provide tower location of the victim. Gupta has also been arrested. The state home department has prepared a detailed plan for the screening, which will reassess the eligibility, physical fitness, educational qualifications and police verification records of all serving volunteers. They will review the performance reports of the past two years, and accept complaints through a portal and helpline.
