Pune: A 54-year-old private company official from Moshi allegedly lost Rs1 crore to cybercrooks in an online share trading fraud.

An officer from Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police said the complainant came into contact with the crooks through a social media platform. They took his details and told him they had opened a demat account. Thereafter, he filed an online complaint,” the officer said.

“They posed as agents of a brokerage firm saying they would share investment tips on stocks and help the complainant earn good profits. The crooks then started sharing tips with the complainant and took money from him into different bank accounts. ” The complainant continued investing as his account showed good profits. By Aug this year, he had transferred Rs1 crore to the bank account numbers provided to him. “He realised he was being duped when he could not withdraw his money and the crooks kept asking for more, citing different reasons. Police have sought transaction details from the complainant’s bank account.
