Vijayanagara (Hosapete): Two persons were injured after a Ganesha idol being transported on a tractor-trailer toppled following contact with overhead power lines in Hosapete taluk on Monday.

The combined height of the tractor-trailer, idol and bamboo structure tied to it was around eight metres, according to Hosapete rural police. Deepak and Hulugappa, who were travelling on the tractor, sustained injuries and were shifted to VIMS Hospital in Ballari,” police said. The incident occurred near Ananthashayana Gudi when the idol, being taken from Hosapete to Kamalapur, allegedly brushed against electric cables. “When the bamboo touched the electric cables, it got electrocuted. Both the idol and the tractor were damaged in the incident. The impact caused the idol to topple, triggering panic among those accompanying the procession. Following the mishap, members of the local Ganesh Sangh immersed the idol in a nearby canal. District SP S Jahnavi, DSP Muralidhar and other senior police officers visited the spot and inspected the site. An investigation into the incident is under way. Download the TOI App.
