Residents told police that the duo had been consuming alcohol continuously for the past two days. Meanwhile, the district police, in a statement, said no injury marks were found on their bodies. The bodies were discovered in a dense karuvelam grove about 200m from Gopi’s house on the outskirts of the village. Blood was found oozing from the noses of both men when the bodies were recovered. Ervadi Dargah police conducted preliminary inquiries and sent the bodies to the Ramanathapuram Govt Medical College Hospital for postmortem. They are investigating multiple angles, including poisoning, suicide, foul play or any other cause. Four special teams have been formed to investigate the case, and police urged the public not to spread rumours until the cause of death is officially established based on the postmortem report.
