Woman, 80, son die after consuming poison amid dispute over liquor money
Muzaffarnagar : An 80-year-old woman and her 50-year-old unmarried son died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance following a dispute over money for alcohol at their home in Shantinagar under New Mandi police station area on Monday evening, police said.
Jitendra Kumar allegedly asked his maternal aunt for money to buy alcohol, prompting his mother, Sushila Devi, to reprimand him, according to police. Seeing her son in distress, Sushila also consumed it, police said. DSP (New Mandi) Raju Kumar said preliminary inquiry suggested that the incident was linked to Jitendra’s alcohol addiction and a family dispute. We are investigating all aspects, including whether any other person was involved,” he said, adding that the exact cause of death would be established after the autopsy.
Jitendra then allegedly consumed the poisonous substance. Most family members were away attending a wedding when the incident took place.
