Muzaffarnagar : A special Pocso court in Mainpuri on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a hefty fine of Rs 1 lakh for raping a 17-year-old girl in 2024.

A medical examination later found the minor survivor was around seven months pregnant, said special prosecution officer Shailendri Rajput.

An FIR was registered under section 376-2 (rape) of IPC and police launched an investigation in Mainpuri. The crime came to light when she underwent a medical examination that revealed her pregnancy. Initially, the girl did not disclose her ordeal.

During the trial, the defence claimed that the accused had been falsely implicated due to a dispute over water supply to his house, and it was stated that they were in a “consensual relationship”.

The prosecution, however, relied on the survivor’s testimony along with medical evidence and statements of witnesses to establish its case. After examining the evidence, the court of special judge Jahendra Pal Singh held that the prosecution had proved the charges against the man beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him under provisions of rape and Pocso Act .
