Pune: A drunk motorcycle rider, aged 32, allegedly drove his two-wheeler recklessly into the path of Union minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol’s moving convoy on JM Road, near Sancheti Chowk, around 8.30pm on Sunday
Senior inspector Girish Dighavkar said, “The convoy was heading towards Kothrud from Sancheti Hospital Chowk when the incident occurred. But the accused (from Nana Peth) recklessly drove his motorcycle very close to the convoy and caused an obstruction of movement for some time, police said. Dighavkar said, “The motorcycle rider works as a salesman at a clothing store in the Camp area.
Bhikule is posted at the Pune police headquarters. Sirens were being sounded from the vehicles in Mohol’s convoy to alert other motorists. He fled after the incident but we tracked him down after studying CCTV footage. We found him to be intoxicated.”
The minister’s police guard, assistant police sub-inspector Ishwar Bhikule, lodged a complaint with the Shivajinagar police on Monday who registered a case against the accused for driving under the influence of alcohol and rash driving and served him a notice. After finishing work on Sunday, he had a party with his friends and was returning home.
