Apple has officially classified the 2019 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display as a vintage product. This designation marks it as the final 21.5-inch Intel iMac to receive this label. While owners can still access repair services through Apple and authorized service providers, these repairs will only be available as long as parts remain in stock.
Software support has already moved on
For this iMac, that point is expected in 2028. The 2019 27-inch iMac got the same tag in July 2025. The 21.5-inch Intel iMac has upgradeable storage and RAM and a socketed processor, although reaching them means removing the display with proper tools. The 2019 model came with eighth-generation Intel processors, AMD Radeon Pro graphics and a 4K panel. It used the slim chassis Apple introduced in 2012, and the base variant paired a Core i3 chip with 8GB RAM and a 1TB hard drive. This iMac will stay on macOS Sequoia, but Apple is expected to keep releasing security updates for it through 2027.
Apple calls a product vintage when it has been off sale for more than five years but less than seven. After seven years, it becomes obsolete, and Apple stops offering hardware service and replacement parts. Apple sold the smaller model for longer, which is why it took another year to qualify. Parts for vintage products are not guaranteed, and supply will only shrink from here. If a slow hard drive or a failing display has been on the to-do list, now is the time to get it checked. Owners who like to tinker have more options. Apple Silicon arrived a year later and made the machine look dated almost immediately.
