Vigilance officials searched two premises of Subhash Chandra, a bank manager (M)
A search operation was carried out on September 16 following an investigation into allegations that Chandra had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, according to the Vigilance Establishment. The agency said a disproportionate asset ratio of 149.67 per cent was found after an open inquiry. Following the inquiry, was registered against him at the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment, Lucknow Sector, under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. The first location was House No 28, Maruti Puram, Sector-K, Ashiyana, Lucknow, identified as Chandra’s residence. The second was House No 4-B/5, Bhagwati Vihar, Indralok Colony, Krishnanagar, Lucknow, where the Virendra Singh Memorial Private ITI School is located. The immovable properties listed by the agency include Plot No 10-C/166 in Vrindavan Yojana Phase-II, Plot No. 8-C/602 in Vrindavan Yojana Phase-II, Plot No 28 in Maruti Puram, Sector-K, Ashiyana, Plot No 5 in Bhagwati Vihar, Indralok Colony, village Kanausi, and Plot No 4-B in Bhagwati Vihar, Indralok Colony, village Kanausi, all in Lucknow. The agency also included an estimated Rs 40 lakh spent on construction of a two-storey house in Ashiyana and approximately Rs 2 crore spent on construction of a three-storey private ITI in Indralok Colony.
The Vigilance Establishment said that documents and other evidence indicating investments in movable and immovable assets in the names of Chandra and other family members were recovered during the searches. During the investigation, the investigating officer obtained search warrants from the Special Court dealing with corruption cases in Lucknow for searches at two premises linked to the accused. Two teams were constituted in accordance with the search warrants and conducted searches at both premises on Wednesday.
The total value of the identified immovable assets was assessed at around Rs 3.40 crore, according to the Vigilance Establishment. The total value of these movable assets was assessed at approximately Rs 1 crore, taking the combined value of the identified movable and immovable assets/investments to around Rs 4.40 crore, according to the agency. During the searches, the teams also found documents and other material relating to movable assets, including vehicles, a rifle/revolver, gold and silver jewellery, luxury and furnishing items, and other investments. Download the TOI App.
