Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment on Thursday arrested Shamli district mining officer Sudhakar Singh and a contractual clerk Saddam, during a trap operation for allegedly accepting an ₹85,000 bribe to process and forward a sand-mining application.
Vigilance officials said the complainant deposited ₹50,000 into Singh’s bank account, while the remaining amount was allegedly to be paid in cash at the time of the arrests on Sept 24. After the arrests, searches were conducted at the mining office and at Singh’s residence, during which officials reportedly recovered ₹8 lakh in cash from the office and about ₹63 lakh from the residence, taking the total cash recovery to approximately ₹71 lakh.
