LUCKNOW: A fresh twist has emerged in the hit-and-run incident near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Extension, with the injured 22-year-old woman alleging that accused Shahnawaz had initially introduced himself to her as “Yash Thakur”. Police said Shahnawaz operates a construction business, while the victim is a student. Police said she sustained injuries in the incident. Anamika and Shahnawaz were already known to each other, according to the preliminary police account. Police said the accused subsequently got into his car along with another person and attempted to leave the spot. An eyewitness reportedly told police and local reporters that the woman was desperately calling for help after the car started moving. The witness said the vehicle initially moved slowly after the woman attempted to stop it, but the driver later accelerated and fled. The woman fell onto the road and suffered injuries, including an injury to her hand, according to the eyewitness account. Police said the exact sequence of events leading to the collision is being established through witness statements, video footage and other evidence. He allegedly told police that Anamika had been following and harassing him for the past six to seven months and had also taken money from him. DCP East Deeksha Sharma said police received information about a woman being hit by a car near Janeshwar Mishra Park and immediately reached the location.
Anamika alleged that she came to know Shahnawaz’s actual name during the confrontation. The claim is part of the ongoing police investigation and has not been independently established by police. The incident has triggered a police investigation after Anamika was allegedly struck by a car, carried on its bonnet before being thrown onto the road and allegedly run over. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing the woman clinging to the front of the moving car as she apparently cries out for help. The injured woman was taken for medical examination and treatment. Anamika allegedly tried to prevent him from leaving and stood in front of the vehicle. Shahnawaz allegedly drove the car forward, hitting her. The impact reportedly left the woman on the bonnet of the moving car. The video purportedly recorded during the incident shows the woman holding onto the bonnet as the car moves along the road. She can reportedly be heard crying for help. The situation became even more serious when the car allegedly accelerated suddenly, causing the woman to lose her grip and fall onto the road. The vehicle then allegedly passed over her before speeding away. After his detention, Shahnawaz reportedly denied the allegations and claimed that he was being falsely implicated.
The two were present near Janeshwar Mishra Park on Wednesday morning when a dispute reportedly broke out between them.
“Preliminary questioning revealed that the accused and the woman were previously known to each other.
Anamika had allegedly been in a relationship with Shahnawaz for around a year, according to the information available. A dispute took place between them, following which the man allegedly hit the woman with the car and fled,” the DCP said. She reportedly learned that he had arrived near Janeshwar Mishra Park in his Verna car with another woman. She then reached the spot and confronted him. A heated argument reportedly followed between the two. The woman accompanying Shahnawaz subsequently left the spot as the dispute escalated. Shahnawaz allegedly entered his car and attempted to leave, prompting Anamika to stand in front of the vehicle.
