Police said the woman, 80, had earlier accused her husband, 82, of assault and physical abuse. The woman, who has high blood pressure and diabetes, has sought Rs 7,000 a month for medical expenses, while her husband has offered Rs 5,000.

The couple have four sons and are living separately — two sons with their mother and the others with their father, a retired govt employee.
Alka Chaudhary, in charge of the police media cell, said on Wednesday that both had refused to live together.
We are trying to resolve the matter through counselling and based on mutual consent,” Chaudhary said. “There is also a property dispute within the family.
