Bridge Repair Project Underway with Traffic Management Measures
A significant bridge repair project has been proposed, which includes structural repairs beyond routine resurfacing for two bridges. The project encompasses several key activities: applying polymer treatments to structural components, anti-corrosive painting of steel, epoxy grouting of bridge abutments, piers, and pre-stressed concrete (PSC) girders, along with repairs to staircases and the construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) parapets and median portions.
The civic body has warned contractors that this work will occur alongside active traffic, necessitating a strong focus on traffic management and safety. Contractors are required to install barricades, blinkers, and warning boards, and to provide diversion signage and proper lighting in coordination with traffic authorities. Furthermore, the tender mandates the placement of “Go slow—work in progress” warning boards at both ends of the work zones, with barricading designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles from construction equipment.
The tender conditions allow the contractor to undertake work on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and at night to maintain continuity of construction. A dedicated workforce and necessary equipment will have to be deployed, with the civic body warning that failure to maintain continuity could attract penalties.
