The arrested are Johnson E M, 36, of Kunnathunad, Ernakulam, and Anoop P A, 41, of Chettinada, Kodanad. Idukki: The Idukki cybercrime police have arrested two men for allegedly duping various establishments by impersonating GST department officials.
The investigation was conducted under the directive of Idukki district police chief A Naseem, with the assistance of the cyber cell. The information collected from various telecom service providers and banks was used to track the accused. They were taken into custody with the assistance of Kodanad Police. The arrest was made by a team led by cybercrime police station inspector Santhosh Sajeev and comprising SIs Anilkumar and Titus, ASI Santhosh Varghese and civil police officers Sandeep, Prathyush, Kiran and Binu.
The fraud was allegedly carried out between May 1 and Aug 7.
The accused contacted various establishments on the phone and allegedly demanded money citing various requirements and misused the name and official designation of the GST department, according to the police. After a case was registered, the accused went into hiding. A scientific investigation subsequently traced them to the Kozhikode area.
