Lucknow: Suspecting his wife of having an affair, a man allegedly beheaded her while she was asleep at their rented house in Hardoi’s Islamnagar Tiliya locality early Wednesday, police said.
The accused, identified as Parvez (34), was arrested after he reportedly walked into a police station and surrendered. The victim, Nagma (28), had been married to Parvez for nearly 12 years.
The couple’s relationship had been strained for several months, with Parvez allegedly suspecting his wife of being in contact with another man on the phone, according to police. Investigators said Nagma was sleeping when Parvez allegedly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon. Police said he repeatedly assaulted her before severing her head.
Frequent arguments reportedly took place over the issue.
The family also alleged that some of Parvez’s relatives were present in the house when the crime took place.
Police have sent the body for postmortem and launched an investigation. Officers are questioning Parvez, examining the family’s allegations, and attempting to recover the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
