Kochi : The Walkaroo Keralathon, a 14-day statewide endurance and social-awareness campaign, began in Kasaragod on Sunday, with 14 runners embarking on a journey across all 14 districts of Kerala to promote a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.
Paul Padinjarekkara (Paulettan), a 72-year-old veteran runner from Kochi who is participating in the event, said this is a first-of-a-kind marathon in the state and is likely to influence the youth towards a healthy lifestyle.
“In each location, along with the runner, the locals will also join the runner, and we expect it would take our cause towards larger public,” Paul said.
The daily run is scheduled to begin at 4.30am, with hydration points and five-minute awareness sessions planned at approximately 10.5km, 21.1km and 31.6km. The marathon is expected to finish around 9.50am, following which the team will travel to the next district and prepare for the following day’s run. The runners will combine the marathon with public-awareness activities along the routes.
