Several window panes of the mosque were damaged in the incident, PTI reported. Bhatkal ASP and other senior police officials were also present and are camping in Bhatkal around the site of the incident, PTI reported. Following the incident, additional police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Police rushed additional personnel to the area after receiving information and brought the situation under control. After news of the incident spread, a large number of people gathered outside the Bhatkal Town Police Station and sought action against those responsible. Police are investigating the incident.
The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Gulmi area, along the road leading to the railway station, news agency PTI reported.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons, while some people were taken to the police station for questioning, police said.
