The full version of Vande Mataramwas then sung, after which the programme commenced

Belagavi : BJP MP Jagadish Shettar objected to the rendition of only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataramat a function held at the BIMS auditorium in Belagavi on Thursday and insisted that the complete version of the national song be sung before the programme began.

Shettar reportedly reprimanded the organisers after the song was rendered partially. Following his intervention, BIMS staff searched for the complete lyrics and eventually located them on a mobile phone. The full version of Vande Mataramwas then sung, after which the programme commenced.

The incident comes against the backdrop of a recent state govt order that limits the rendition of Vande Mataramto its first two stanzas at most government functions. Among those present at the event were BCC deputy mayor Hanamant Kongali, BJP state vice-president Anil Benake, BJP rural district president Subhash Patil, city unit president Geeta Sutar, former MP Mangala Angadi, former MLA Sanjay Patil, former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath and BIMS director Vinay Dastikop.
