Hubballi : Miscreants targeted two Canara Bank ATMs in neighbouring Sulla and Byahatti villages in the early hours of Thursday, making away with a total of around Rs 14 lakh in cash. They allegedly broke open the shutter lock, looted more than Rs 3 lakh from the machine and damaged most of the CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the premises before fleeing. The gang then targeted another Canara Bank ATM located in the central residential area of Sulla village and allegedly decamped with around Rs 12 lakh. The total cash stolen is estimated at around Rs 14 lakh.

The burglars first struck the ATM at Byahatti around 3am, according to police. Speaking to TOI, DSP Vinod Muktedar said the same gang was suspected to be behind both ATM thefts in Sulla and Byahatti. He said four special teams have been formed under the guidance of superintendent of police Gunjan Arya to identify and apprehend the accused.
Police suspect the heist was well-planned and executed by the same group. Following the incidents, a police team led by deputy superintendent of police Vinod Muktedar and Inspector Murugesh Chennannavar visited both locations. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were pressed into service as part of the investigation. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and collecting forensic evidence from both sites.
