A senior police official said the murders appeared to be a case of mistaken identity. Sivaganga police have arrested five people in connection with the brutal murder of two youths whose bodies were found in a tank near Paiyur on Wednesday.
Deivendran, 27, and Poopandi, 25, were hacked to death by an unidentified gang. Based on CCTV footage and analysis of call detail records (CDR), they arrested Balamurugan, 24, Dhanaraj, 19, Santhosh, 19, all from Billur village, Satheeshkumar, 25, from Mathur, and Kaleeswaran, 23, from Alupillaithangi.
